Week in Review

What we did this week:
Blake showed Mommy lots of cool "spiderman moves" Cole Smiled and drooled and drooled and smiled.
Julia refused to smile for the camera with her new outfit on that I made her. I really love the celery colored matching fabric I found but unfortunately I kind of think it looks like a pajama set which it is NOT. On Monday evening, the air was cool and we enjoyed a late summer supper Spanish style outside. When we went to Spain last year I absolutely loved the tortillas(eggs, potatoes, onions and green olives) and gazpacho soup. My sister told me how to make them and so I finally decided to give it a try. Very tasty, but the tortilla was a lot more work than it seems like it should be. MIke didn't care for the gazpacho(tomatoes, green peppers, cucumber and garlic pureed). Maybe it tasted too much like "women food".
On Tuesday evening, instead of enjoying a nice dinner outside, this is the view I got from our sidewalk-FIRE!!!! I was freaking out as I could see the flames from my house. But alas, we are safe and sound. Thank you firefighters. I know the picture is lame, but the lights at the bottom are my neighbor's houselights and the flaming orange glow on top of that is the fire.

Fry it up

A few years ago I got "foodnetwork" cookbook. One of the first recipes in this cookbook is for corndogs. Yes, I love corndogs!!!! I had been wanting to try the recipe out forever, but alas did not own a deep fat fryer.
Enter friends with a deep fat fryer. We decided it would be fun to have a frying party and make some corndogs. We got a little carried away and ended up frying the following items:
-corn dogs (not so great)
-jalapenos stuffed with cheese (SO GOOD)
-onion rings (DELICIOUS)
-cheese sticks (ok)
-fries (ok)
-cookie dough wrapped in wontons (good)
-candy bars wrapped in wontons (yummy)

It was like having the fair at our house.
So good, but oh so nasty.
I think I ate the amount of fried food in one night that I normally consume in one year.
The smell of fast food restaurant that lingered in our house that night nearly killed me. YUCK

No more fried food for a LONG time.

Sewing 101

The only thing better than sewing something is teaching someone else how to sew something. A few weeks ago I started teaching my first "student". It really is kind of fun teaching someone how to do something that I enjoy so much. And there is nothing like the joy on said student's face when she completed this cool bag, fully lined and complete with a pocket and cool trim on the top of it. She should be very proud of herself. What will we make next.........

The worst $1000 I've ever spent

A few weeks ago I was in a fender bender. This is the damage done to my car at 5mph. That damage cost about $5,ooo to fix, of which my insurance covered all but $1,ooo. It makes me sick to think of all of the many ways I could have spent that $1000, although I am grateful that we were not hurt. Add this to the list of reasons why I will never be able to acquire a serger:(

If I could bottle him up....

This week I canned 50lbs of tomatoes in the form of salsa. It will be nice to enjoy the taste of those tomatoes in non-tomato season.
Sometimes I want to do the same with my baby. He is growing so fast. I just want to hold onto these precious moments forever. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this age. So quick to smile, so snuggly, milky breathe, clothes covered in drool, hands that are either in the mouth or grabbing toes at all times, big smiley blue eyes, etc etc. What is there not to love about a 4 month old. Not even his diapers smell that stinky yet. This little man has the best disposition. He is so happy and content. I just can't help but kiss him ALL THE TIME.

Think we'll keep him:) forever!
It really is true that babies are bundles of joy. Why can't they stay babies forever?

walmart, shmallmart

I REALLY don't like Walmart. When, and I do mean when and not if, they get their way, there will be no other stores left to choose from and they will have secured the biggest monopoly of all time. Read this.
Thank goodness there is a Target so close to my house. :)

Not gonna happen....yet

Yesterday, while at Target I decided that it was time to give potty training Julia a try. We went to the "big girl" underwear isle and picked out some Hello Kitty ones and home we went. She was so excited about the underwear. We put them on this morning, and 2 hours later she had her first accident. 2 hours after that she had another accident and back into her diaper she went. Oh well.
Although I have put her on the toilet several times she has never once used it if you know what I mean.
Better luck next time. For the time being, I'm fine with the diapers. Better to clean up a diaper than a dirty floor.
Can't she just go to the "Blake potty training school" and potty train herself like he did?

Is anyone else addicted?

I'm not really into reality TV shows. They all seem kind of slow paced to me. I've only seen American Idol once and didn't find it all that exciting. But I have to confess that several weeks ago I was flipping through the channels looking for something to watch as I cut out a pattern and I came across America's Got Talent. And yes, I love the show. It is so very entertaining and I love to watch all of the different kinds of acts.
Am I the only one out there who is shamelessly addicted to this show?
Confessions please!
